My favorite spots in NYCU Guangfu Campus

By Jade Khieu, Class of 2023

Guangfu campus is one of the most known campuses of National Yangming Chiaotung University (NYCU) with the area of over sixty hectares. There are several landscapes and areas here that are for students with different purposes: studying, gathering/meeting with friends, dining, playing ... In this article, I will share with you about the spots in Guangfu campus that I found enjoyable and often spent time in.

Bamboo Lake view

Guangfu campus has three lakes and Bamboo Lake is the biggest one which is near the North Gate and has spacious area around. The water always has this lovely color of emerald green (reminding me of the bay water in my hometown – Ha Long), no matter what the weather is like, and often there is this cool breeze that I found chilly and relaxing, especially when I need some me-time after a long day of hard work.

I usually choose the bench that is right close to the gate, since it is closer when walking from Dormitory 11 where I stay and there are many flowers planted on the way there. I also have this strong belief that looking at this calming landscape with lots of greenness and fresh air helps ease my mind and may even light up new ideas.

Library 2nd Floor - Study space

The huge library in Guangfu campus is not only for books storing but also for students to study and discuss in groups; it is also the building where school faculty office and exhibitions locate. While the study space in the 4th and 6th floor are more popular among students with numerous seats, I prefer the one on the 2nd floor which is right in the back, with the view of campus’s Eastern side. As a nature lover, I enjoy this view whenever I need a break from my laptop screen. Plus, it is not so crowded and there are even comfy single sofas for reading (and resting as well!).

The electrical multi-plug adapters here are another bonus. As I usually spend five to six hours in this space, the adapters are essential for laptop and phone charging. And because there are not many people sitting on the 2nd floor, I always have the adapters for myself!

North Gate’s pine colonnade

This is another outdoor place in Guangfu campus that I adore. It has an idyllic beauty with a spot of sadness (or gloominess, in the winter days) and is perfect for a walk. There are also lots of pretty pinecones lying on the ground, that I used to pick up and bring back to my dorm room as for Christmas decoration.

BONUS: On-campus Café

Coming from a country with rich café culture, even when I am not a big fan of the drink itself, I love to spend time in café working on my laptop or simply chilling or chatting with friends. The closest café I can find is the vendor near the Female Dormitory 2 in Guangfu. However, since it is located in the cafeteria with other food vendors, the atmosphere is sometimes too noisy with chatters, so I would go there only for a take-away. When having more spare time, I visit the one in our neighbor school – NTHU, which is also their popular self-study center, with a cozy vibe, plenty of seats and lovely music.
