NYCU Guangfu campus where I attend GMBA classes is in the East District of Hsinchu, which is just next to Hsinchu city center. Today I would like to explore places to visit in my leisure time.
Hsinchu Main Train station
First place to visit is the Hsinchu Main Train station. It’s an important place because main streets of the city are connected to it and it’s convenient to visit most city areas from there.
Also, the main station connects Hsinchu to other cities in Taiwan with regular and express trains.Located just right next to the station in Hsinchu’s bus terminal which is important to students because of easy connection to Guanfu Bus stops – offering a convenient way of going back to campus dorm. Also, the station is in a historic building dating from the colonial Japanese era, making it one of best-looking buildings in town.
Running parallel to the street adjacent to the Train Station is Riverside Park, it’s also connected to historic East Gate and continues on beyond. This place is especially nice during summer as it’s nice to sit next to the flow of water and get some iced tea, also it’s a pleasant place to walk through during nighttime as nearby restaurants and bars are located there. I like to go there because it's one of the few places in Hsinchu that has sidewalks and benches to sit on.
zoo, park, and a stadium
The area behind the Main station is a home to a zoo, park, and a stadium. There are a lot of activities to do in that area and those are the places I visit often. The zoo is newly constructed and has a very fun layout in comparison to other zoos.
Park is probably the best walking area in town with the most space for pedestrians and places to sit and relax. Stadium is open to the public and many residents in Hsinchu go there for an evening run which I recommend doing and to sit around the arena. Also many people find it to be a nice place to play some outdoor games.
Big City
Big City is a mall which is located close to Riverside Park is one of the most popular places in Hsinchu. As the main mall in the city, it offers most of the interesting brands to me which is very convenient, unlike Taipei here it’s possible to just go to this one place in Hsinchu to find a store that I’m interested in.
The highlight for me is a floor spanning food court which covers all popular types of cuisines and in my opinion is unrivaled when compared to other malls. I love to go there with friends because it’s so easy for everyone to find something they like.
Sunday trip or evening hangout
Hsinchu city center is a great place to visit for both students and visitors. It's a good place for a Sunday trip or evening hangout. Even during transit there's an opportunity to do something fun. I’m sure all students really appreciate how convenient and fun place it can be.
