2021 Meet Taipei – Startups for Tomorrow
By Rusli, Class 2023
On Thursday, 17th November 2021, my GMBA class visited the exhibition “2021 Meet Taipei - Startups for Tomorrow”. This field trip was held by Professor Sirirat Lim for Marketing Management class, one of the best subjects that I attended in my opinion. Our journey started gathering in front of the NYCU assembly hall at 12:15pm to wait for the bus to pick us up. It took us about an hour to get to the destination. It was a fun journey on the way there, such beautiful scenery of the mountains, villages, houses, and not to mention there was almost no traffic.
Taipei Expo Dome
As time goes by, finally we arrived at the Taipei Expo Dome, prior Professor Lim had assigned us to choose companies or startups that we liked the most, study their marketing strategies, and make opinions and also suggestions on how to better their marketing strategies, based on what we learned so far. Since we have only a couple of hours, my team which consisted of me, Ercivan, Robert and Ujwala had already divided the tasks equally prior, and later we gathered and collected information from many company’s booths we attended.
Startups with Brilliant Ideas
My first thought of this event was amazing. At first, I did not realize how this event invited so many companies, from startups to big companies like Ikea, Deloitte, and even Tesla. It was actually very exciting for me since I wanted to understand and learn more about this company’s models and their strategies. A couple of hours went by quickly and my teams finally had achieved their goals to collect the information as much as possible. I think my group was the last group to come back to the bus since we enjoyed and were eager to see many companies and startups with brilliant ideas.
Great Business Models and Unique Marketing Strategies
From my observations, most of the startups that gathered at this event have original ideas, great business models and unique marketing strategies. We like the products and services that are related to sustainability and eco-friendly, which have less impact on the environment in order to reduce climate change. We also weigh in their marketing strategies which are mostly digital, with some physical marketing. It proves that their strategies can help promote customer awareness, by purchasing their products and/or services actually helped create less waste and may help the planet from the onslaught of climate change.
Learn So Many Things in Taipei
Hence, we preferred companies like Ikea, Package Plus, Charge Smith, Tesla, and Nespresso, since we think that during this event, they offered unique products and services, and also with their strategies can create brand awareness. I am very grateful to have the opportunity to come and learn so many things there, hopefully I will be there for the next startups event, and get some new ideas that can be applied in my home country, Indonesia.
